Yesterday might have marked the official start of New York Fashion Week, but the race for the poshest post-show party is still going strong. In the early evening, after the snow—and Kanye West for Adidas—an elegant gaggle of girls put on their highest stilettos to fete Tome’s Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin and their latest collaborator, queen of heels Sarah Jessica Parker, at It boîte Cafe Clover. “It was thrilling!” exclaimed Parker in a robe-like Tome dress and olive suede shoes from her line. “I was more drawn to see their work than ours,” said the actress of the runway show that featured Parker’s pieces with the designing duo’s. “It was really meaningful because they used the shoes in a different way,” said Parker. And how did the guys feel of their latest fan? “Sarah Jessica Parker has made the mood board several times,” said Martin. He and Lobo referenced certain ensembles Parker sported on Sex and the City that made the cut. Did they learn anything from the fashion savant? “She brought up labels we didn’t even know,” said Lobo, adding, “She’s a fashion librarian!” Also taking in the excitement were Jenna Lyons, Lily Kwong, Jessica Hart, and Amirah Kassem. Cohost Lauren Santo Domingo, dressed in a colorful patchwork fur Giambattista Valli turtleneck sweater and Saint Laurent jeans, also sang Parker’s praises. “It was so sophisticated,” said Domingo of the trendy triumvirate’s show, “but also very wearable. The quality of the fabrics—and of SJP’s shoes—are really very well made.” As guests lingered over wine and crudités, no one wanted to venture out into the cold, but with one season down, the Tome team is already gearing up for next season. Any thoughts of a Parker reprisal? “We want her to come and consult for us.”
With Valentine’s Day less than 48 hours away, it seemed only natural to ask the preternaturally chic Caroline Issa which items from her new Nordstrom Signature collection she would wear for Saturday night. “We have a lovely mosaic-print silk tie dress that is flirty but also classy.” One of the Nordstrom execs standing nearby pointed to the lace-trimmed silk camisole she herself was wearing under a blazer, “This is very good for that!” Indeed the 28-piece collection is a mélange of separates that provide what Issa believes are the key elements in a woman’s wardrobe. For the intimate dinner celebrating the editor and fashion favorite’s debut collection with the retailer, Issa paired a silk wool navy cocktail dress with a Monique Péan shark’s tooth pendant. Held at Claudette, Greenwich Village’s answer to a Provençal auberge, the evening drew the fashion flock recently flown in from corners near and far for the first day of New York Fashion Week. Let the games begin!
